I would spend a lot of time straightening paper at my desk or going through the manual product for almost the 10th time. It happened for almost 2 weeks after which my boss pointed out that these random activities are not adding up to my commission. He recommended that I should be spending time that will lead to a sale. He introduced to me a basic rule of thumb used in sales i.e. 80:20. If I know about the person I am going to speak to and the company’s profile, the cold call can turn into somehow successful. In my experience, I have learned that if the cold call can last more than 2 minutes then there are chances that the person might be interested. The first 2 minutes are the toughest of all since you can gauge from the person’s tone if they are interested in your product or they are least bothered about this product of yours. That is why I always make sure that I don’t get a quote to complete in making these cold calls that I have to make 50 calls every day.
