We always have to make tough decisions as CEOs at one point or the other. I have therefore had to make lots of such decisions in my career. While working for David and Branson, we decided to join a new market, a venture that turned out unsuccessful. The market was too crowded and not as friendly as we thought. I had to decide whether to continue pushing or withdraw from the market altogether. After talking to the stakeholders and different employees, I knew I had to decide soon. I decided to withdraw but directed the market analysis team and the relevant employees to identify a better and more profitable market to make up for our unsuccessful venture. They did, and the company continued to profit despite the losses we made from the former market.

17. Have You Ever Had To Handle A Situation Where Two Team Leaders Had A Conflict?

As a CEO, I usually rely on team leaders and other executives to reach the employees since I may not be able to get a hold of each of them. Therefore, I always ensure that team leaders and other executives are at their best. I once realized some friction between two executives and decided to act quickly, given their importance to the organization. I arranged separate meetings with them and understood where they were coming from before a joint meeting among them, where I acted as a mediator.
